Solar Water Heater Installer Training a Success!

KSP’s solar water heater installer training on July 22 – 23 at Berea College attracted 23 participants and was an important step in our solar water heater program. John Rees of the North Carolina Solar Center and Bill Guiney of Solargenix Energy, Inc. presented the workshop, which addressed the design, installation, and maintenance of solar water heating systems. Participants expressed a great deal of enthusiasm during the workshop and there was a regular stream of questions and answers between the attendees and the trainers. “The workshop was definitely worth attending,” commented one contractor after the event.

Based on our conversations with the participants, we expect several new contractors to begin installing solar water heaters here in Kentucky. This was the primary goal of the training, to address the shortage of trained, active installers in the state. KSP will next offer field training to participants who wish to gain hands-on experience installing these systems.  People came to the training from a wide region, including Louisville, Cincinnati, Lexington, Eastern Kentucky, Tennessee, and North Carolina. Among the participants were licensed electricians, plumbing and mechanical contractors, general contractors, government officials, and homeowners interested in installing systems in their home.

KSP will be hosting additional solar water heater installer trainings in the next year.
