The following contractors provide installation services for solar water heating, solar electric, and in some cases, wind generator systems. The list is divided into two sections, based on whether the company employs NABCEP certified solar installers. NABCEP (North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners) is a national voluntary certification program for solar PV and solar thermal (i.e. solar water heating) installers.
The Kentucky Solar Partnership encourages solar installers to become NABCEP certified. Professional certification strengthens the solar industry by establishing standards for installer qualifications, competence, training, and experience. It provides the public with a standard by which to judge the qualifications of contractors. It raises the profile of the solar industry and increases public confidence in this profession.
KSP will also continue to list installers who are not NABCEP certified. KSP supports new installers entering the field, as well as experienced contractors who have not yet acquired certification, and recognizes that the process of achieving NABCEP certification (acquiring the necessary experience and training, and taking the exam, which presently is offered only twice per year) can take some time. We wish to support the development of these businesses while we encourage them to achieve certification.
The Kentucky Solar Partnership does not certify solar installers, and the State of Kentucky does not certify or license solar installers. In the absence of state licensing or certification, NABCEP offers the public with a standard for assessing the qualifications of solar contractors. Note that the Kentucky State Tax Credits for solar electric and solar water heating systems requires the system to be installed by a NABCEP certified installer.
